Women Entrepreneurs Support Association
The "Women Entrepreneurs Support Association" (WESA) public union unites active, initiative women of Kyrgyzstan of all ages to develop the capacity of women in small and medium bussiness, to support their private business initiatives, to provide information, to give them knowledge and skills on market economy, to protect their interests and rights.
Activities and main directions:
- To assist to the equal access to economic resources: land, property, loans, new technologies,information resources and etc.;
- To provide training and consultation services;
- To support competitiveness of women at the labor market through retraining and increasing of qualifications;
- To provide legal support and to protect property rights.
- Women who have registered sustainable business (trade,services,small production and others);
- Women working in informal economy (craftsmanship,clothing industry,services ad others);
- Women enterpreneurs starting, opening their business who have business capacity;
- Youth that needs to obtain knowledge and skills for their further employment.
Gender expertise:
WESA laywers conducted gender expertise for the land legislation. The association initiated to submit changes and amendment to the Law of KR "On agricultural Land Management" for consideration to the Jogorky Kenesh of the KR. In 2006 the draft las was adopted by the parliament of the country and signed by the President. The changes in the law cancelled some norms that limited access to rural residents to land resources; WESA within NGO Council group participated in preparation of two alternative reports for periodic report of the KR on the implementation of the UN Convension on elimination of all types of discrimination in respect of women. The convention on the Eliminiaton of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). Initiatives: In order to support rural women in conditions of land and agrarian reform in 2002 the Assocation initiated the project of women's land rights. Activities of the "Strengthenning of economic security of rural women in KR" project are directed are directed to increase legal knowledge of rural women and to protect their economic rights.
Plans and perspectives:
The priorities of direction in Association's activities are:
Assistance in actual access of rural women to economic resources and new technologies;
Establishment of special programs to assist to establish, to develop and to strengthen small enterprises owned by women;
Dissemination of legal knowledge and practical assistance to women to protect their economic rights.
